With today’s cost anytime you can save some money is a great help. Saving money on your electric bill is one of the best ways to lower monthly costs. It is the little things you can do that will stretch your dollar even more.

The first thing you can do to save on some money is to lower the temperature on your hot water tank. The hot water tank uses more electric than you an imagine. If it is set too high it will use more electric and uses more money. This is a good idea and addition to the heaters to help control how much energy you use.

Some other simple ideas are to use heavy drapes to keep the heat from entering into the home, wash and dry full loads of clothes instead of wasting the energy on small loads, avoid opening and closing windows and doors as much as possible and for the rooms that aren’t being used close them off instead of cooling an unused room. It is a good idea to also use weather stripping around the windows and doors to seal the loss of energy.

But, one of the best ways to save on your electric bill is to use a microwave oven, if possible, instead of a conventional oven. These large ovens uses and wastes a lot of energy. And always remember to clean the filters in your air conditioner. If it is clogged it will use more energy than necessary.

In the winter it is just as important to use a few simple steps in saving extra money. Use weather stripping, don’t leave a door or window open more than necessary and close off unused rooms. Heavy drapes will help to hold the heat inside too. With the money you save you can plan on having a nice vacation with the extra money you have saved.
