How to involve your family with saving money on your electric bill
When families are not conscious about conserving electricity, electric bills can fly through the roof. Any family needs to have an action plan when it comes to conserving energy. By implementing an action plan, a family can save hundreds of dollars on electric bill in a given year.
Often, kids are the major problem in creating high electric bill expenses. Getting kids to be conscious of electric use can be downright difficult. To encourage children to be more conservative with energy use, a parent should not attach a negative connotation to things like shutting off the lights, unplugging the computer, or turning off the television. Whenever a parent yells at a child for forgetting to turn off the lights or unplug the computer, that child will automatically think of energy conservation as a negative thing.
Instead, parents should make a game out of energy conservation. Every time a child forgets to turn off lights or the television, he or she should receive a tally next to his or her name. The child with the least tally marks at the end of a month then gets to have a surprise chosen by the parents. Or, the child will get to choose a fun and cost-free activity that the family can do together, such as watching a movie.
